Quarter 3: January - March'
Fabric Collage: Lollypop. Children worked together while they explored the communicative function of art. They were asked to build and cover a lollypop with a message inside. Take a look! (photos soon)
Rolled Paper Sculpture: This art task included using the rolling paper technique. Children would first draft their paper sculpture (on their sketchbooks) and plan what they wanted to do next class.
We show here some of their sketches. They were told to draw as many ideas as they wanted and then choose the one they liked most. Some started even to plan the colors they would use. Most of these children followed their plan and built the sculpture according to their design. Are they not true artists?
Next session, all children got to work and started bringing life to their drafts. See their sculptures and part of the creating process.
Finally, we arranged all their works together to make a poster, see part of the process.
After a little cut, and seen from the top:
To be continued...
Quarter 2: October-December
Sketchbooks: A sketchbook is a book filled with blank pages that artists keep for painting, writing, drafting, sketching as they develop their creative processes. First graders where introduced to this tool at the end of the year and prompted to create their own sketchbook. Look at their beautiful covers!
Fiber and fabric art: This art strand includes all kinds of work done with fiber, yarn, string or fabric combined with other materials.
The Pear collage was the first project chosen for this quarter in this strand. Children were instructed about form (three dimensional element in art) and were asked to construct form through a fabric collage. These photos show them working on this.
